Anywhere at CERN, only registered computers are granted access to the
network!
Please follow the instructions
to register your laptop as a visitor in the TH Division:
If you are a future visitor
and would like to register your laptop before your arrival,
just follow the instructions at: http://cern.ch/registerVisitorComputer.
As contact person to approve your request, you can set: Elena Gianolio (department PH, group AGS).
If you are already
at CERN:
Plug your computer in one of the portable
sockets available in our offices. There should be at least one in each office.
They are indicated by a paper, stuck on the wall close to the window
or behind the door and marked "outlet for portables" or "network intervention".
Look for the outlet number on the small white boxes placed below the
window (yellow sticker). Note that DHCP has to be enabled on your
computer.
If you have a problem finding this plug, or if the plug doesn't work, please contact Elena Gianolio (74751 or 160579).
Wireless connection is available
in most of our building,
as well as in many other parts of CERN such as the cafeteria and
the library.
Note that in order to use both ethernet and wireless connections, you
have to register both hardware (MAC) addresses.
Open a browser to any destination:
on a Linux system, use Mozilla while on WINDOWS and MAC OS X systems,
use Firefox or Safari.
If you are a visitor : follow the
indication " I do not have a CERN
account" and as contact person to approve your request, set Elena Gianolio,
department PH, group AGS. Click on the button "PROCEED" if it complains that your name exist as CERN user !!
If you are a permanent user:
follow the indication "I do have a NICE account" (your NICE account
is your MAIL/Windows account!)
In this case please follow our naming conventions :
name of the device : PCTH or MACTH followed by your family
name (i.e. PCTHSMITH, MACTHSMITH)
usual location : your office, eg., 4 2-014
As responsible for the machine use Elena Gianolio department PH, group AGS
Record yourself as Main User (your department is
PH, group TH)
